It All Started With a Rave
My journey into DJing started in 2025, and honestly, I never expected it to become such a big part of my life.
I first discovered the VRChat rave scene through VRC.tl. I'd spend nights hopping between different raves, having a few drinks, listening to music, and hanging out with my friend RealStubz.
Back then, I wasn't thinking about becoming a DJ. I was just enjoying the music, meeting people, and having a good time.
Eventually, I came across a DJ named K3N.
What really caught my attention was the music he was playing. It was this incredibly bouncy, energetic Top 50-style house music that just made you want to move. Something about those sets stuck with me, and for the first time, I started thinking:
What if I tried doing this myself?
Meanwhile, my friend RealStubz kept encouraging me to buy a DJ deck and give it a shot.
Eventually, I gave in and bought my first deck.
There was only one problem: I had absolutely no idea what I was doing.

Five Hours a Night, Learning From Scratch
Around that same time, my VRChat group, Naughty Nerds, was getting into hosting raves every two weeks.
We were learning how to organize events, find talented DJs, build lineups, and create nights people would actually want to come back to. Alongside those bigger events, we were hosting house parties pretty much every day.
And that's where I really started learning.
Night after night, I'd hop behind my deck and practice. Sometimes I'd spend almost five hours a night mixing, experimenting, figuring out transitions, and discovering what worked and what definitely didn't.
I knew next to nothing when I started. I'd make mistakes, try things that sounded terrible, and sometimes accidentally stumble onto something that worked really well.
But I kept going because I was genuinely having fun.
Eventually, I slowed down from those marathon practice sessions, but I'd learned a huge amount. I wasn't just listening to tracks anymore. I was thinking about how they could work together.

The First Time It Really Clicked
One of the first moments that made me feel like all that practice was paying off happened during a Naughty Nerds house party.
I was playing Bass House, just doing my thing behind the decks, when I noticed how much fun everyone was having.
People were dancing like crazy, enjoying the music, and completely getting into the set. Seeing everyone react that way was an incredible feeling.
For the first time, I really understood what I loved about DJing.
It wasn't just about getting transitions right or learning how to use the equipment. It was about creating an experience other people could enjoy.
That moment stuck with me.

Taking It Beyond the House Parties
As I got more comfortable behind the decks, I eventually played at Mainframe Open Decks, an event at a VRChat club.
It was my first public club/open-decks performance, and another important step in my journey. Going from practicing at house parties to playing at a club event made it feel a little more real.
I was still learning, and I still am, but I was starting to find my place in the scene I'd originally joined just to listen to music.

Discovering My Sound — Without Sticking to One Genre
One thing I've learned about myself is that I absolutely love discovering new music.
I don't want to lock myself into one specific genre and never explore anything else.
When I first started DJing, I experimented with different styles, including Bass House and other kinds of electronic music. As time went on, I started exploring harder, faster, and more unusual sounds.
These days, two of my favorite genres to play are Frenchcore and Industrial Techno. There's something about the intensity, energy, and atmosphere of those styles that I really enjoy.
But that doesn't mean those are the only things you'll hear me play.
I've also explored the wonderfully ridiculous world of Alien Penis Music (Drum and Meme), along with plenty of other genres that catch my attention.
Yes, that's really what it's called. And yes, I'll probably play something you've never heard before.
I consider myself a multi-genre DJ because that's what makes DJing fun for me. I enjoy discovering different sounds, experimenting with them, and finding ways to share them with people.
Sometimes that means playing something dark and industrial. Sometimes it's ridiculously fast Frenchcore. And sometimes it's something so strange that you just have to hear it to understand.
You never really know where the music is going to take you.

Where I Want to Go From Here
Right now, VRChat is my home when it comes to DJing.
It's where I discovered the rave community, where I first got inspired, where I learned to DJ, and where I've had some of my favorite experiences behind the decks.
I want to keep performing at VRChat raves, meeting other DJs, discovering new music, and continuing to improve. I'd also love to explore bringing my sets into other games and virtual communities.
But I have a bigger goal, too.
Someday, I want to be good enough to perform at real-life raves.
I'm not trying to rush that. I know there's plenty left for me to learn, and I want to get better with every set.
For now, I'm just enjoying the journey.
I went from someone who discovered VRChat raves in 2025, to someone who bought a deck without knowing how to use it, to someone who's now performing for the same kind of crowds I used to be a part of.
And the coolest part?
I'm still learning, still discovering new music, and still just getting started.
